GOED is a 501(c)6 not-for profit trade association. Our goals are to increase consumption of omega-3s to adequate levels around the world and to ensure that the industry is producing quality omega-3 products that consumers can trust.
We were founded in 2006 as GO3ETA, Inc., but do business as the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED). The roots of GOED go back to 2000 when the industry collaborated to petition the US Food and Drug Administration to establish a heart disease risk reduction claim for omega-3s. The companies involved later formalized the relationship by forming the Omega-3 Working Group at the Council for Responsible Nutrition and collaborating again to develop what is now known as the GOED Voluntary Monograph. In 2006, when the Working Group was dissolved, twelve of the companies banded together to found GOED with a strong mandate to grow our membership to represent all sections of the EPA and DHA market. As of early 2015, GOED has more than 200 members from around the globe and in all segments of the omega-3 supply chain.
To be the gobal authoritative and trusted voice to guide and improve consumer awareness about the benefits of long chain EPA & DHA omega-3s and related products.
To give support to global members by reporting to consumers and consumer influencers the benefits and optimal intake levels of long-chain EPA & DHA omega-3s, based on scientific studies, while ensuring the highest quality standards and sustainability practices.
How We Work
GOED is a member-driven organization. We have a board of directors comprised of Leadership Level members and four active sub-committees: Communications, Regulatory, Scientific and Technical. The board is responsible for advancing GOED's mission and setting up strategy. In addition, GOED's staff and committees work to execute on our strategy.
Our Accomplishments and Recognition
GOED is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and while still a young organization, we have been made significant progress towards our goals. We have achieved a variety of milestones for the global omega-3 industry on regulatory, scientific, technical and communications fronts. Click here to see a full list of our achievements.
