GOED’s Global Omega-3 Navigator User Guide

GOED’s Global Omega-3 Navigator (GO-3N) is an interactive tool that helps you quickly find and navigate global regulatory and technical information relevant to the omega-3 industry. This guide gives a brief overview and practical instructions to help you get the most from its features.

This is a comprehensive resource tailored for industry professionals, offering insights into regulations, monographs, technical standards and guidelines across various regions. Its multi-layer filtering makes it easy to focus on exactly what you need.

Covered Topics & Datasets

The Navigator currently includes five topics organized into two datasets:

Dataset 1: Composition and Quality & Food Additives

  • Composition and Quality: Monographs, standards and guidelines detailing composition and quality requirements for omega-3 rich oils.
  • Food Additives: Food additives with antioxidant functions and their conditions of use, permitted for use in our industry.

Dataset 2: Recommended Intakes, Claims & Labeling Tolerances

  • Claims: Information on health and nutrition claims permitted in different jurisdictions.
  • Labeling Tolerances: Labeling tolerance limits and permissible error ranges established for omega-3 nutrient declarations in different regions and countries.
  • Recommended Intakes: EPA/DHA omega-3 intake recommendations from institutions and authoritative bodies worldwide.

How to Use the GO-3 Navigator

1. Start by selecting a dataset.

  • Use the two dataset buttons at the top right. This controls which topics are available.

2. Choose a topic.

  • The lefthand panel lists the topics within the selected dataset. Click a topic to display information specific to that subject.

3. Apply additional filters and/or use the interactive map (optional).

  • After selecting a topic, you can use the other drop-down menus or filtering options to refine your search. For example, use the filter box “Country or Organization” to view specific requirements.
  • In the Organizations section (on the right side of the map), select organizations or regions like Codex, USP or EU to explore global or regional requirements.
  • Use the map to select countries or regions. Tool tips are included for guidance. You can hide the map using the toggle button at the top left corner to better visualize the search results.

4. Search for keywords for customized results.

  • Use the search box at the far right side of the drop-down filters to search for specific terms.

5. Reset filters and map selections.

  • To reset a keyword search, click the "x" button next to the search box.
  • To start a new search, use the "Reset Filters" button at the far left side of the drop-down filters to clear all previous selections.
  • To reset map selections, click in the white (empty) spaces within the map.
  • To reset Organizations selections, click on the same organization you have selected.

6. Accessing official documentation

  • Search results will display a PDF icon on the right side of each result. Click this icon to access official documentation, if available. If a document is not available, it will be associated with one of three other icons, including: “Purchase required,” “Subscription required” or “Unavailable.”

7. Downloading or printing results data

  • To download search results in PDF format, select the "Downloads" button at the top right corner of the dashboard. This will open a new view where downloads are possible by selecting the PDF icon in the top left corner below the topic filter.
  • In the pop-up window, under “Include,” change “This View” to "Specific sheets from this dashboard," then select the topic(s) of interest. For optimal results, set “Scaling” to “100%,” “Page Size” to “Unspecified” and “Orientation” to “Landscape.”
  • Click “Download.”
  • To return to the main dashboard, click the "Return" button at the top right corner.

Additional Notes

  • User Experience: For the best experience, we recommend accessing the GO-3 Navigator on a desktop computer rather than a mobile device.
