GOED Publishes New Market Report and New Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Methodology to Strengthen Omega-3 Industry Insights

The Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) recently published a biennial report on the global finished products market for EPA and DHA omega-3s as well as a new Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology specifically for the EPA+DHA value chain.

Finished Product Report

The 2026 Finished Product Report offers a comprehensive overview of six key markets at the consumer product (brand) segment of the supply chain: dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, pet nutrition, infant formula and clinical nutrition/medical foods. Together these six categories reached US$55.4 billion in sales in 2025, influenced largely by inflation and higher prices in key categories and geographies. The report includes market figures and trends data for 2024 and 2025, plus forecasts through 2027. Click here to request a sample of the report.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Methodology

GOED has also published a high level, specialized framework to help companies in the omega-3 category accurately and consistently measure the environmental impact of their products in line with ISO standards. This is the second step in a three-part series of LCA guidance documents developed in collaboration with environmental advisory firm EcoEngineers, an LRQA company. More LCA competence and data within the industry will enable fair and direct comparisons of EPA+DHA ingredients or products in the marketplace, regardless of the source, and can help producers, consumers, regulators and other industry stakeholders understand environmental impacts with greater nuance.

The LCA guidance has been released in three phases throughout 2026:

Step 1 (published in February 2026): An overview of the omega-3 category’s key life cycle challenges and baseline LCA posture

Step 2 (published in April 2026): A high-level, technical LCA methodology framework for the EPA+DHA market

Step 3 (to come later in 2026): Practical guidance and training to translate the highly technical concepts in the methodology into practical life cycle assessment tools for companies throughout the omega-3 spectrum.
